Dr Uma Hariharan is a trained CLASSICAL music singer, since childhood. She has the unique distinction of being knowledgeable in both HINDUSTANI and CARNATIC classical music. She was the lead VOCALIST of the undergraduate college music band/orchestra at AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College, Pune) and has performed at several official functions during her MBBS days. After topping the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) interview in Anesthesiology, she continued her pursuit in classical music at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital & PGIMER, New Delhi, where won the Best Singer Award during the "HINDI WEEK", an initiative by the Govt. of India for promotion of Hindi language. She represented the Health Ministry (MOFHFW, Govt. of India, New Delhi) in the annual, INTER-MINISTRY MUSIC & DANCE COMPETITIONS, organised by the DoPT (Department of Personnel & Training, Govt of India). She won the GOLD & SILVER MEDALS consecutively for two successive years in Carnatic CLASSICAL music and Carnatic SEMI-CLASSICAL music respectively, in the year 2017 and 2018 (both). She also won the coveted GOLD MEDAL for her rendition of HINDUSTANI classical music in the above competition this year. She also has a keen interest in classical dance, especially KATHAK. She has renewed her proficiency in Kathak dance by performing at various official functions of the hospital. Dr Uma Hariharan is also an avid CHESS player and enthusiast. She was the COLLEGE TOPPER in Chess tournaments during her undergraduate days at AFMC, Pune and has also represented the Health Ministry (MOHFW, Govt. of India) in the Inter-Ministry Chess Competitions this year. She also won the prize for the BEST ESSAY COMPETITION during the Vigilance Awareness Week, Government of India on the topic of "Corruption-Free India" in the year 2016 and 2017.
